Scunthorpe United sack Ian Baraclough after defeat to Preston
SCUNTHORPE United have this morning sacked manager Ian Baraclough.
The decision comes less than 12 hours after the Iron were beaten 3-0 by bottom-of-the-table Preston North End.

Ian Baraclough looks gutted towards the end of the 3-0 home defeat to Preston.
That result left the club four points away from Championship safety, with nine games of the season remaining.
Assistant manager Kevin Pressman and first-team coach Steve Parkin have also left the club.
"Scunthorpe United Football Club has today relieved Ian Baraclough of his first team duties with immediate effect," read a club statement this morning.
"The difficult decision was reached in light of the team's disappointing performances.
"The club would like to thank Ian for his hard work and dedication over a six-year period as a player, first team coach and latterly as manager.
"Assistant manager Kevin Pressman and first team coach Steve Parkin have also left the club.
"The board would like to wish Ian, Kevin and Steve all the very best for the future.
"An announcement will be made shortly in relation to the appointment of a caretaker manager."
Baraclough took charge in September, following Nigel Adkins' decision to join Southampton, but has struggled to match the success of his predecessor.
The Iron won just eight times in his 32 games at the helm, with last night's defeat undoubtedly the lowest point of his short reign.
Chairman Steve Wharton has not yet given any hints as to who will take charge on a caretaker basis, ahead of Saturday's trip to Ipswich Town, but former manager Brian Laws and his assistant Russ Wilcox are likely to be strong contenders, given their friendship with the Iron chief.
Baraclough is the first United manager to be sacked during Wharton's time in the chair at Glanford Park.

“Worst ,gutless, passionless game i have witnessed in 40 years of watching the iron, glad Barra and his joke backroom staff have gone. Also Wharton needs to take as much of the blame,as he has been quite happy to watch our club die on its feet due to lack of ambition and investment to keep us up,Also Wharton time to clear out the boardroom of your nodding donkeys who do not contribute anything to our club. Please prove me wrong Wharton show you care about this club and the supporters."UP THE IRON"!!!”

“The foundations for this season were layed by Nige and not barra, the decision to replace Hooper with Forte was down to Nige,Forte at best was an impact substitute.Doesn't matter who was in charge this season...the result was always going to be a struggle to aviod relegation, with our gate of around 5,000 we have no chance with our wage budget of competing at this level...even Mourinho would have us relegated... UP THE IRON”

“If laws goes back to SU he will be truly back where he belongs .The only passion he showed was the passion to leave. Ihope he gets the job as it will save any decent club having the embarasment of telling him NO we don't want you.”

“Not quite sure why so there is no much negativity regarding Brian Laws. Everyone I know would have him back in a flash. He always showed his passion and would give our current players the kick up the backside so many of them need right now. But whatever the outcome... UP THE IRON”

“Have you found those posts yet "Sue"? I'm off home in a bit, so if you could have the evidence of my "clambering" on my desk for 9am tomorrow, that would be great.
Agree with Danny too - the foundations for this season were laid in the summer. Even if Adkins had stayed I'm not sure we'd be in much better a position with the same group of players. Although we'd probably be making an attempt to play football. All the more reason for Wharton to look at increasing the revenue coming in to the club, so we're not "forced" to sell off our one goal threat midway through the season.”

“Just heard a helicopter was seen landing at GP and a rather well dressed Potugese gent was seen being welcomed by Wharton . Watch this space.”

“Personally i dont see how this will change things, there was very little investment in players in the summer coupled with many big losses. The january transfer window was a too little to late gesture from wharton and now hes trying to show he cares about keeping us in NPC. Not good enough ...”

“Tony Daws is on a hiding to nothing Saturday. Most of the players he selects have been brought in by Bara. I just hope they react in the right way.
As for hull tigerbarton, I remember your manager almost in tears on Radio Humberside after the Iron win at the KC and just remember your club were FREEFALLING out of existence until you were fortunate enough to get foreign cash to bale you out!”
