CHRISTMAS came early for children on the Disney Ward thanks to the generosity of players and staff at Scunthorpe United.

Bowmandale Primary School pupil, Jay, had only been on the ward for a few hours following an operation on his ear.

"I like football and support Manchester United," he said.

"I am hoping to get some Batman Lego for Christmas. Superman is my favourite, though."

Each year, the club makes a trip to the Disney Ward ahead of the festive period.

Iron defender, Tom Newey, said it was nice to be able to support the community. He said: "This is a chance for us to give back to the community.

"To know there are children in hospital over Christmas is not nice – especially having children myself."
