Sporting legend Sir Ian Botham has been approached to get involved with Scunthorpe United supporters' group the Iron Trust.

Sir Ian, in addition to being England cricket captain and his country's star all-rounder in the 1980s, lived at Epworth and trained and played for Scunthorpe United, including some first team appearances.

The Iron Trust - @IronTrust - sent a tweet to Sir Ian - @BeefyBotham -  yesterday, asking: "Beefy, would you be interested in joining fan's group Iron Trust as honorary member? Working to help club."

Sir Ian often comments about Scunthorpe United on Twitter and has fond memories of his time with the team.

“The phrase Lady Botham doesn't bring the most beautiful image to mind!

    Hope Sir Ian gets involved.”
