Bristol City full-back Christian Ribeiro will sign a two-month loan deal with Scunthorpe United on Friday.

The Welsh international, who has two caps for his country, will stay at Glanford Park until the middle of March, though the Robins have stressed there is an option for United to keep the player until the end of the campaign.

Ribeiro's arrival is the latest arrival in what has already been a busy transfer window for the Iron, who have moved to bring in cover with club captain Cliff Byrne still struggling for fitness after nine months out with a back injury.

He had only returned to Ashton Gate at the turn of the year, following a successful spell at Scunthorpe's League One rivals Carlisle United.

The 22-year-old impressed for the Cumbrians, whom he helped to a 2-1 success at Glanford Park in early December, and boss Greg Abbott had been keen to keep Ribeiro for longer.

Although the Neath-born full-back has not played for the Robins during the current campaign, he did make 11 appearances in the Championship last season.

Ribeiro will train with Scunthorpe tomorrow and is likely to go straight into the starting line-up for Saturday's game at Colchester United.

“sounds like a good signing.... lets hope we get shut of Nelson and get this other midfielder in before saturday too... Pleased Johnstone has gone, he was a liability and certainly no better than Slocombe and reckon Norwood will not be back either. Still need a more proven striker though and would be good to get Mirfin back on loan as a solid centre back.

Sort that lot out and reckon may well just stay in L1.”
