CLUB skipper Cliff Byrne could be less than a fortnight away from returning to action for Scunthorpe United.

He joined in training again on Thursday and is on course to be back in contention for a place in the Iron squad at the end of the month.

"It was good to have back again with the group," said manager Alan Knill.

"He is a big character to have around.

"But he is going to need some reserve games under his belt before he is ready again for first team action.

"Hopefully he might ready for a game in a week or two."

Byrne has been out for seven months with a back problem, but got the all-clear to step up his training again after three days last week at the FA’s rehabilitation centre at Lilleshall.
