Scunthorpe United have sold striker Chris Dagnall to Barnsley - but have replaced him with the acquisition of Stalybridge Celtic's Connor Jennings.

Dagnall has today signed a two-and-a-half year deal with the Tykes, after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee for the 25-year-old.

The former Tranmere Rovers trainee had been linked with the Glanford Park exit door prior to the opening of the January transfer window, though manager Alan Knill recently rubbished talk of a bid by League Two club Bradford City.

Dagnall's hard-working reputation had made him something of a fans' favourite during his 18 months with the Iron, but he has struggled to turn his work-rate into goals.

As one of the bigger earners at Glanford Park, his switch to the Championship - where he netted five times in 37 games for Scunthorpe last term - paved the way for the signing of hotshot Jennings, whom Knill confirmed an interest in last week.

The talented teenager helped propel the Celts into the top two of Blue Square North, two levels below the Football League, and has scored 19 times in all competitions this season.

Jennings completed a medical at Glanford Park this afternoon after Scunthorpe had an undisclosed bid, rumoured to be in the region of £50,000, accepted by the Greater Manchester club.

Stalybridge had been keen to hold out for a six-figure fee for a player they claimed had been the subject of interest from eight clubs.

“Again, where did I criticise Dagnall? You have made an accusation now point it out to me and other posters or like others on here you need to resort to lies. And by the way I did not write Skunas words so why link his comments to me?

Oh and welcome back Mr Club and Wharton family member Robin Jackson - I think you will find a certain Mr P Doff was the culprit who sussed out your father in laws intentions only to get them overturned in the last few games forcing him to make sure the following season.”

“Everyone is entitled to an opinion PStoff, and that is all it is, your opinion. Your opinion is no more valid than anyone else's on this website. You say Dagnall worked hard, but didn't produce due to the 'team he was in!' Surely that stands then for all of the strikers, as I said? If they don't get the service how can they produce? Moreover, Skuna disagrees with you about Dagnall and says he was never a team player. Players who are signed for Scunthorpe FC play for the team, Loanees play for themselves. After all, why should they be interested in Scunthorpe Utd?”

“Gave a good account of ourselves? What a hypocrite you are PStoff. You spent the latter half of the 2009/10 season wagering on here that we would get relegated, then refused to pay out your losses when we stayed up.”

“Where did I criticise Dagnall? I do criticise the club. However I don't support the club, I support the team. I want what is best for the team and which players are best for the team irrespective of who brought them in, loan or permanent.

In my eyes Dagnall and Grant as a pair were not up to the players they replaced, Hooper and Hayes. Dagnall worked his socks off whilst he was here but failed to deliver due to the team he was in, Grant is a petulant selfish schoolkid who plays for himself and not the team.

Bara brought in some rubbish which we have to play with still. Adkins brought in some rubbish too as will any manager.

So forgive me if I go against the glorious chairman but I seem to remember that we were recently in the second tier of English football and gave a pretty good account of ourselves that should have encouraged a foundation or consolidation but all we got was capitulation and dismantlement.”

“PStoff if you are so PStoff find another club to constantly rip apart. Your 'support' really is to be questioned. You criticise Bara's signings - yet you have little respect for neither Dagnall nor Grant , btw who were both Nigel's signings!! Sure Nigel A knew what he was doing don't you? Service doesn't come as far as the strikers because the defence and midfield are dire to say the least, made up of loanees who really do only play for themselves and the dosh. So PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH for a while, or PSoff.”
