Scunthorpe Utd: Defensive duo provide Iron with Christmas cheer
Defensive duo Cliff Byrne and Paul Reid are both in contention to return for Scunthorpe United's festive fixture programme, manager Alan Knill confirmed this afternoon.
The duo have been sidelined for at least the past three weeks, Reid longer, with groin injuries, but having both returned to training today, the Iron boss is confident both will be available for Boxing Day's home game with his former club Bury.

Paul Reid (left) and Cliff Byrne should be available for the Iron's clash with Bury on Boxing Day after recovering from groin injuries.
"Cliff and Reidy both trained," said Knill when asked about the duo this lunchtime.
"They're big players and the big thing their return gives us is competition.
"We're slowly getting the squad back, though obviously the likes of Damien Mozika, Michael Collins and Josh Lillis are still missing.
"We'd like them all back if possible."
United's players were involved in double training sessions today as they bid to climb clear of the relegation zone.
As well as their long term injured though, Shane Duffy, Bobby Grant and Andy Barcham all sat out as a precaution after picking up knocks during the weekend's goal-less draw at Exeter City.
Knill is hopeful the trio will not be out of action for long.
"Shane had a knock first half on his calf and then one on his ankle, but he finished the game," he added.
"Bobby landed awkwardly and his back was stiff and Barch took a knock on his knee first half, but he's okay.
"None of them have trained today, we rested them. But we hope they'll be back on Thursday."
