Scunthorpe Utd: Gavin 'Gunning' for Iron deal
MANAGER Alan Knill is hoping he might have solved Scunthorpe United's problem left-back position by bringing in Blackburn Rovers defender Gavin Gunning.
He is one of two new trialists who will make their debut for the Iron tonight in the latest pre-season friendly at Rotherham.

Gavin Gunning will get a chance to impress tonight.
The other is versatile midfielder Kieran Djilali, who was released by Crystal Palace at the end of last season.
"There is a possibility that Gavin could be joining us on a permanent basis," said the United boss, who had the 20-year-old on loan for two months at Bury last season.
"We might not have to pay any money for him, but Blackburn will want a sell-on agreement."
Gunning has represented the Republic of Ireland at every youth level up to the under-21s.
He has come through the ranks at Ewood Park and finished the previous campaign on loan with Motherwell in the Scottish Premier League.
"We have been looking for a left full-back all summer – someone who can give us some proper balance down that side," said Knill.
"Gavin can play either left back or as a left hand side centre back.
"It will be left-back where we will be looking for him to play.
"He will start at Rotherham tonight and will stay with us for the friendly against Barnsley on Saturday."
Djilali will also be in the Iron's starting line-up against the Millers at the Don Valley Stadium tonight.
"He is a player I have always liked since I first saw him playing on loan at Chesterfield," the Scunthorpe manager continued.
"He is a player with pace who can play anywhere across the middle of the park and also up top.
"He was away with Leyton Orient earlier this pre-season and we are bringing him in to have a look at over the next couple of games."
Knill is also still chasing another striker, but is unsure if that will yield success before the season begins at Wycombe Wanderers on August 6.
"It might not happen before the start of the season but I do want to bring someone in before the transfer window closes at the end of August," he declared.
"I was out watching someone last night."

“Making an effort to stay in the Championship was the answer for the Mighty Iron not forcibly taking the club backwards. Some people just can't see further than the end of Wharton's purse string.”

“IRONBOZ. Couldn't agree more lets fill the place at reduced prices, which will more than compensate for lower pricing when it comes to cashing up after the game. Also gives the place some atmosphere which is bound to rub off on the players.”

“PStoff you need to realise we don't have meggar bucks. We've spent before Jones being a prime example off the over rated dross that has come to united if we can get a quality player free gratis bring them on and sell for big money then all the better for scunny. The only way that we will have meggar bucks is to get bums on seats until we can stop the locals going to leeds etc to do this the board need to drop the prices in the presant climate we're in a lot of scunny fans can't afford to come and watch. Dropping the prices of tickets is the answer for the mighty iron.”
