Scunthorpe Utd: Grant keen for Iron to get things right at Glanford Park

Frustrated front man Bobby Grant says improving an ailing home record has to be the next target on Scunthorpe United's hit list if they want to climb the League One table.

Once a fortress, in the past 12 months Glanford Park has become one of the most welcoming venues in the Football League to opposition teams.

The Iron have won just five of the last 27 league matches in front of their own fans - a wretched record stretching back to September last year.

But after working hard to seemingly cure one of their biggest headaches, defensive generosity, in the past few weeks, Grant is confident his side can do the same when it comes to their home form.

"I don't know why, but we seem to be playing better away from home at the moment," said Grant, on the back of successive Scunthorpe clean sheets at Brentford and MK Dons.

"We need to improve here and if we can get good home and away form together you'll see us climb up the table.

"I think it's crucial you have a good home record if you're going to have a push at promotion.

"We need to start playing well and trying to pick up three points every time a team comes here."

Grant will be hoping to keep his place in the Iron starting XI when Huddersfield Town arrive at Glanford Park tonight looking to extend the sort of unbeaten run the Iron can only dream about.

A return of one defeat in six is reasonable given Scunthorpe are currently a club in transition, but that form comes nowhere near to matching the Terriers' 39 matches without defeat.

Having not scored in his last eight appearances, Grant is keen to get back on the goal trail this evening.

But if he doesn't, and he has to settle for another clean sheet, he insists he takes as much pride in that achievement as his team-mates at the other end of the field.

"Even as a striker you share the joy as much as everybody else," the 21-year-old, who believes the Terriers are as good a side as you'll find in the third tier, told the Telegraph.

"Obviously we're disappointed we haven't scored in the last couple of games, but we're putting the graft in to keep the clean sheets as much as anyone.

"The gaffer has always said if we keep a clean sheet we'll have a chance of winning.

"We had the chances on Saturday (in a 0-0 draw at MK Dons), we just couldn't break them down.

"But the team is gelling together and we're starting to defend properly.

"That is starting at the front and going through the midfield. That was a big thing on Saturday, whenever you turned around you had a team-mate backing you.

"We went there for the three points and I personally think we should have nicked it."
