Shane Duffy's loan spell at Scunthorpe United has been extended by another month.

The Everton centre-back's initial deal is due to run out on Thursday, with the extension kicking in from there.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 has quickly established himself at Glanford Park, making four appearances so far.

"I'm delighted," said Iron boss Alan Knill. "He's a good player."

There is also good news for fellow defender Paul Reid, who is expected to return to training on Thursday.

Reid was forced to come off in the second half of Saturday's 2-1 victory over Yeovil Town with a broken nose.

"He's going back to see a specialist tomorrow," said Knill.

"We were told this morning he could have trained but we decided to leave it just in case.

"We're not expecting the specialist to say anything negative."

“I was aware of that fact. He lasted about thirty seconds before sustaining a head injury, we had him on trial with a view to a loan move when Brian Laws was in charge about a decade ago. But that was cut-short and he was unconscious for nearly 24 hours.”

“I am thankful we are rebuildng now & not at the level GTFC have found themselves. We've got a new management team/structure, new players &..........? Wharton is leaving a tight debt free club (fair play) but who is the replacement? This is the big worry.”

“You might be in the same boat as Chester fans - mutliple non-league relegations and still have to pay League 2 ticket prices. Not that any Scunny fans would wish that on you, we're too magnanimous for that. One day GTFC83 I'll stop envisaging your face pressed up to the sweet shop window. Until then, take heart, you could be a Chester fan.”

“GTFC - never mind playing Scunthorpe in League 2 next season, more like your local derby will be Gainsborough in Conference North”

“GTFC83 - what you may not know is that Joey Barton has played for Scunthorpe Reserves before and to be honest I don't think he'd choose somewhere like GRIMsby do you? (did you see what I did?)
Anyway concerning your comments at the weekend, how many points have you got in the last 2 games. I cannot see you playing us in League 2 next season. The holy grail of LEAGUE football looks even further away for you! Especially when you pay Fenty out and your meaningless club goes under!”

“Joey Barton has been in contact with Scunthorpe United in a bid to make a fresh start to his troubled career. 'I remember the joke about putting the ar$e into Marseille when they signed Chris Waddle' Barton may have said 'and that was great for his career.'

Barton is understood to have considered Watford originally until he realised that the 'T' at the front had been drawn by a team-mate in marker pen on his Panini football sticker album.”
