ANDREW Tutte has been tipped to make an immediate impact at Scunthorpe United – if he completes his expected move to Glanford Park.

The Telegraph can confirm the 20-year-old is the player with which manager Alan Knill has reached a verbal agreement about joining the Iron this summer.

Tutte, who returns from a holiday in Thailand today, is expected to sign a contract with United in the next few days, becoming the club's second signing of the summer in the process.

A free agent after his release from Manchester City, the midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at League One Yeovil Town and turned down a deal with the Glovers toward the end of his stay.

After scoring twice in 15 games at Huish Park, fellow third tier rivals Rochdale, Oldham and Bury were all rumoured to be circling – as well as at least one Championship club.

However, it appears United have beaten them to the punch.

And in doing so, they will have secured the services of a promising player, according to journalist and Town fan Ben Barrett.

"I believe he has already made an impact in League One and will make one next season, definitely," said Barrett of Tutte.

"He can be one of those players in the long term who is worth £500,000, so he might not be just a player to keep on the pitch now.

"He might be someone who pops up and is worth a bit of money in a few years and puts a few quid in the club's pocket.

"He is a player who didn't want to play on the halfway line, but on the edge of the opposition box.

"He has got a turn of pace, good feet and is not afraid to venture forward.

"At Manchester City, I guess, as a junior, you play wherever you can.

"So he has still got the ability to put a hard challenge in and track back."

Tutte also featured for Rochdale and Shrewsbury on loan last term, but it seems the former England Under-19s ace's career is on an upward trajectory.

"If you stuck him in a side promoted from League One, like Brighton for example, he would probably sit on the bench for the season," continued Barrett

"If you are going to be up near the top of League One then yes, definitely, you give him a season and he will naturally progress into a Championship player."

“Can I once again, on behalf of what few supporters that are still remaining, beg for Wharton to get out of our club, he has been here for far too many years, and we have lost faith in his operation style that he insists on at Scunthorpe.

The past two seasons has seen SUFC enforce the departure of all our better players, same as Hugh Zoff has written, the club has shown NO ambition and NO loyalty what so ever towards the fans, and heading into the new season we are left with a load of no hopers and as Wharton will find out, NO supporters, sorry there will be a few HAPPY CLAPPERS sitting, or should I say standing watching home loss after loss, the same as last season.

Whartons control guided us down last season, in order to avoid putting seating into the North Stand there is no doubt, so I will along with many other season ticket holders, let him get on with things, there is no point in supporting a club that is being run like ours.

KEEP YOUR SEASON TICKETS, FROM A SUPPORTER OF THE CLUB FOR 59 YEARS, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.”

“With players back and team building starting next month and what do we have.

A young journeyman with a dodgy past and a dodgy one year contract.

We have had a plethora of names that have been dangled under our noses by the clubs mouthpiece, Knill dropping cryptic links naming names as such without actually doing so. We have the rolling "two players in this week" adding "possibly more to follow" keeping the masses happy (or so the club thinks).

It is apparent that all is not well down at GP with poor season ticket sales and unprecedented transfer spin on their website.

We are getting O'Connor already being lined up for sale, if not this summer it will be January, the dregs we got last season are soaking up the vastly reduced wage bill which is preventing us bring in the players Knill wants because of derisory wage offers. Those players will all hang on until the 11th hour in case something better comes along. Knill has to hope they don't and so come here as a last resort.

Adkins left here as quick as he could last season because of all of this. Although still unproven here I wonder how much Knill will put up with and how strong his resolve is.

Even the more gullible fans that the club rely upon are seeing through all of this and the strong downturn in support we saw starting last season will be more evident this and Wharton will be sat on his squishy seat asking where is everybody when a gate of less than 4000 is watching most home games.

No amount of spin is going to reverse what he has set in motion. It will take action to convince the fans. The club is in freefall, there will be no return to the Championship, the absolute best we can expect is League One survival but if things do continue as they are currently we may well find ourselves in a successive relegation battle.

It is a viscous circle. Reduced gates = reduced funds so wage budget gets reduced again so we have to buy cheaper incapable players who in turn drag us down even further.

We are not a Championship club but we have to set ourselves to be an established League One club and use the Championship as a smash and grab opportunity like Blackpool did the Premiership. However, due the ambition of him in the Ivory Tower the cost of promotion is too much because of the necessary ground changes, changes that should have been implemented as a result of our three seasons up there.

So expect the ST to be bombarding us with more "Chances to Shine" and "We can Bounce Back Up" and how perma crock Thompson will be a revelation next season whilst the names of Ryan, Taylor and Tutte appear on the starting line ups of other clubs.”

“Now this is a positive news story for the Iron instead of all the rubbish we have had to read of late.Good luck to him and the Iron,it must have been that stadium tour and visit to the Scunthorpe tourist centre that sold the move for him.”
