Scunthorpe Utd: Jennings remains firmly on Iron's radar
Striker Connor Jennings remains a likely target for Scunthorpe United manager Alan Knill in the January transfer window.
The Iron boss confirmed an enquiry had been made for the Stalybridge Celtic front man and has not ruled out further developments.

ENQUIRY: Scunthorpe United boss Alan Knill has been impressed with Stalybridge Celtic striker Connor Jennings
Nineteen-year-old Jennings has scored 14 goals for the Blue Square Bet North side this term, and has attracted the attention of a number of other clubs, according to chairman Rob Gorski.
"I went to see him twice," said Knill.
"It's my job to go and watch. If there's talent around it's my job to go and watch.
"As of yet nothing's happened.
"I like him, his movement was good. But, I watch a lot of players.
"We made an enquiry just to see what it would be and where it would be. As of yet, we are where we are.
"He's obviously not coming in the building on January 1, as yet.
"He's got some talent and scores a lot of goals.
"We'll have to wait and see."
Knill dismissed rumours linking Chris Dagnall with a move away, though said the return of Nicky Ajose to Peterborough could free up some more room in the budget.
The United boss stressed once again the financial constraints he is under, admitting he will most likely be relying on the addition of loan players when the window opens.
"For most clubs in this division it's loan signings, it's not permanent," said Knill.
"And as well, it's a difficult time to sign permanent players in January.
"We'll try to be careful with who we sign if we do sign anybody.
"Nicky going back frees up a bit more room, but at the same time we overstepped the budget to get Nicky.
"Unfortunately it hasn't worked out and if we can use those funds for something else then I'm sure everyone will want us to.
"We're looking at all areas; if we think it can improve the team and improve the squad, if there's a player out there then we'll try our best to get him.
"The problem is money's pretty tight.
"Finding the money for players to improve the team is difficult.
"We have to look at that first because that's always the biggest factor – can you afford it.
"If we can then we'll try our best to go and get somebody.
"There's a list of players but, can we afford them, that will decide what happens in the end.
"Money's tight all over.
"There's probably only a few clubs that can go out and spend, and they probably will.
"You just have to get on with it and try to get the best out of the players."
And despite his preference to conclude transfer business early, the manager added it rarely works out that way.
"It tends to happens in the last three days," he said.
"We'd all like it out the way as soon as possible, so come February you know exactly what squad you've got – because you may lose players right at the last minute.
"I just think it is a distraction for everybody."

“With tight boy Wharton wanting out, there will be no fees involved in January. So expect a token (and completely useless) loan signing.
Lge 2 coming rapidly Wharton. What chance of a sale then ?
Don't get too heavily in the supporters trust, gentlemen. It's Wharton's only hope of getting out. You don't see too much ambition from the other board members do you. they are Yes-men. Talking of which, where is SW's son-in-law and mouthpiece, Jackson ?”

“Attracting anyone when your 3rd bottom is very difficult. Surely it wasn't a big surpise that Dagnall and Grant didn't score goals?. Experienced goalscorers ? If they are on form they aren't coming to Scunny. Remember Geoff Horsefeild, bright opening game, but if I recall he scored once for us. And Knill selects "his recruits" for praise after the Bury game..... he should learn from Adkins about developing "the team".”

“We have been fed a line about proven goal scorers in the past. Don't expect one, just expect inexperience and crossed fingers.”

“Grant isn't useless, Pdoff. He just needs a team that creates sensible chances in the box which SUFC don't. Its difficult to see any striker doing well at SUFC with the way the ball is given away when on the attack. We need to keep possession in the opponents half and thereby prevent the strikers from having to drop deep to get the ball. As Grant and Robertson had to against Bury. Additionally, Togwell, Wright and Barcham play too many uncontrollable passes forward. We have Lge 1/2 forwards not premiership ones.
O'Connor is the only one who can make a properly weighted pass but he doesn't look too interested.
Another small technical point that illustrates the poor coaching: Nolan is slow but decent with the ball at his feet. Why then, vs Bury, did the midfield make him have to run onto the pass. He missed 90%.”

“So, a player that many clubs are after is sought after by the usual derisory and insulting offer that would be the lowest out of the 7-8 teams after him.
I am all for loan players coming in January but we need goal scorers as we don't have any at the moment. Stop bigging up Grant, today sees the second time in as many weeks. He is useless, hopeless and plays for himself not the team. If AK rates Grant then the chances are we are likely to continue 2012 as we left off 2011.
Money should not be pretty tight. We are in freefall and money should be brought forward of the overall 500k we have made over the last 5 years, Dagnall is off despite the denial above as his agent is touting him about all over the North.”
