Scunthorpe Utd: Knill - Le Fondre price too high for Iron
MANAGER Alan Knill has confirmed his interest in Rotherham United hot-shot Adam Le Fondre.
And the Millers have confirmed they have turned down an offer from Scunthorpe for the 24-year-old player.
-

PRICE IS WRONG: Striker Adam Le Fondre.
"Yes, Adam Le Fondre is a player that I have been interested in this summer," Knill confessed.
"We did have some preliminary talks with Rotherham, but the price they quoted was too much.
"I can understand it from their point of view because they do not want to lose a player who has scored so many goals."
With the Iron already set to go to a transfer tribunal this summer to determine a fee for Jimmy Ryan, they are probably reluctant to commit themselves elsewhere until a fee has been fixed.
And while their interest in the player is unlikely to be completely dead, Knill is now beginning to focus his attention elsewhere.
There is another striker who is high on his radar, but whether anything happens before the start of the season is questionable.
All three of Knill's summer signings so far are attackers, but there is still a feeling the club are lacking an out and out goalscorer.
Le Fondre is certainly that – but Rotherham would have to pay a sizeable chunk of any fee to Rochdale because of a sell-on clause when the player joined them in 2009.
"Scunthorpe did come in with an offer but it was nowhere near our valuation," confirmed Rotherham chairman Tony Stewart.
"They said they would come back to us, but we have heard nothing yet.
"Le Fondre is a special player who is part of our plans moving forward."
Rotherham want to have a good crack at promotion from League Two this season to coincide with their move to a brand new stadium in 12 months time.

“From seeing Lefondre a few times I dont really rate him, he is too small too light & too slow,Yes he scores goals but against very moderate teams”

“How long does it take to set up a transfer tribunal ? The whole fiasco is holding everything else back. Or has SW requested the tribunal sits on 1st September ?”

“Carlisle bid 350k and was turned down. TBH any talk of signing him should be taken in the same manner as Conor Sammon - club speak carrot dangling smoke and mirrors.”
