Scunthorpe Utd: Knill eyes top-flight striker in loan window
Alan Knill has targeted a Premier League striker to boost his squad further when the loan transfer window opens next week.
The Scunthorpe United boss signed midfielder Damien Mozika and centre-back Shane Duffy on transfer deadline day, with the latter joining on an initial one month deal.
But with Bobby Grant suspended, and Matt Godden and Jordan Robertson both injured, for the visit of Sheffield United on Saturday, Knill is hoping to strengthen his attacking resources.
"It's a good thing the loan window opens on Wednesday, and we've already started looking," he said.
"I think we definitely need a striker in but it's finding the right one. We're hopeful we're going to get one, and then go from there.
"We're looking at people we've looked at before.
"We've had a 'not yet' for a striker from a Premier League club, but we believe it is a 'maybe' now.
"He will give us just another option at the top end of the pitch."
Knill has been pleased with the financial support he has received from chairman Steve Wharton, though when asked whether he would like to strengthen in other areas of the pitch, the Iron manager admitted money was becoming a factor.
"If I'm going to be honest, it's wages," he said.
"We've just spent on Damien and Duffy so we really are at the top of the budget – probably over it.
"The chairman has really stretched to get the players we wanted in to add a bit of competition, and now we're looking to stretch him a little bit more!
"It's been fantastic support.
"It was a struggle to get Damien but we got him in the end.
"That's why I came to this club. At Bury I would never have been able to sign Damien Mozika or Jimmy Ryan, so this gives me the opportunity to go sign those kind of players.
"I believe they are players that will make us better, not just now but long-term."

One of the greatest myths of the current era is that we are somehow solvent and in the black....we SHOULD be but we aren't...it's easy comparing our debt to the mountains that other clubs face but in REALITY we haven't spent much on any ground (besides GP) since the 1957 erection of the cantilever stand - Sheff UTD are millions in debt but then they've spent heavily on the ground and squad.
