MANAGER Alan Knill is poised to bring in a couple more trialists to his Scunthorpe United squad this week.

One could be here in time for Wednesday night's friendly at Gainsborough, the other for Sunday's Lincs County Cup clash at Lincoln.

"One is a wide player with a bit of pace and the other is a left-back," said the Iron boss.

"One (the winger) will be available for Wednesday. The other is away with another club at the moment having a trial there.

"The feedback is he has done quite well but he is not too sure about the club."

Knill won't reveal yet who the two players are.

But he has revealed his concern at the continued absence from the pre-season games of midfielder Michael O'Connor who has a knee injury.

"He got a knock on the knee in training – but it is not the same one he injured during last season," said Knill.

"No-one really knows when it happened, but he has some heavy bruising underneath the kneecap.

"We have had a scan on it and there is nothing serious, it just needs time to go away.

"I can't see him being ready to get back into training this week.

"That's a real concern because the last thing we want is to have Michael O'Connor two or three weeks behind the rest.

"He is an important player for us and we hope to have him ready for the start of the new season.

"Michael is as frustrated as everyone else too, because he wants to be out there playing."

There was some good news on the injury front for Knill on Saturday when Garry Thompson came through the final 30 minutes against Halifax Town – his first run-out of the pre-season campaign.

"He looked fit and strong, but we still have to be careful with him," warned Knill.

"The last thing we want is to see him break down again.

"We will have a look at him again closely this week and see if he is ready for another run-out at Gainsborough."

“Sounds like ex cod Peter Bore who is on trial at Bournemouth. We can afford him he comes free, unlike 29 goal Alan Connell who has gone to Swindon for 110k”
