SCUNTHORPE United striker Chris Dagnall believes the officials in charge of Saturday's 1-1 draw at Wycombe 'bottled' a late call which ensured the Iron left Adams Park with one point, rather than three.

The Scouser, who had a host of chances throughout the game, finally found the back of the net deep into stoppage time with a back-post header.

But the linesman on the far side had his flag up for offside, something Dagnall insists he got wrong.

"We have looked at the DVD and absolutely, I am a yard onside, there are two, possibly three, defenders keeping me on," said the 25-year-old.

"I don't know what the linesman has seen. I went to him after the game and he said I was a yard offside – I don't know what he is playing at.

"He has made a bad mistake in the last minute of the game.

"He has played it safe and chalked it off.

"He has definitely bottled it.

"It was the easy out for him and he gets an easy life.

"It is frustrating for me. The keeper has made some good saves and when I finally put the ball in the back of the net, to see it chalked off, is devastating.

"But you have got take the positives out of the game, I thought we played quite well, created a lot of chances.

"As long as we keep performing like that, we will score more."

United had 17 shots at goal during an entertaining draw in Buckinghamshire.

It is that statistic, and the manner in which Scunthorpe set about their opponents, which left Dagnall pleased with the performance, if not the result.

"I think the performance was a lot better than last season," added the forward when comparing the previous campaign in which the Iron regularly failed to provide enough of a goal threat in matches.

"If we can produce that on a regular basis we will win more games than we lose.

"Saturday showed what we have been working on in pre-season, passing the ball and making chances."
