REJUVENATED winger Mark Duffy believes Alan Knill has given him his confidence back.

And he is determined to ensure that Scunthorpe United reap the benefit.

Duffy has looked a class act in the Iron's first two games of the current campaign – having admitted he was 'out of his depth' in the Championship last term.

Together with Jimmy Ryan at Wycombe, during Saturday's 1-1 draw at Adams Park, and Andy Barcham in Tuesday's Carling Cup win at Accrington Stanley, the 25-year-old has teased and tormented opposition full-backs as part of two largely impressive displays.

And being given the chance to express himself on the ball is the reason why Duffy is determined to ensure he's no duff.

"I think I can say I've started the season well, I just need a goal. Hopefully that'll come on Saturday," the Scouser told the Telegraph.

"I found it a little bit tough coming from League Two into the Championship.

"No disrespect to Ian Baraclough, because he brought me in, but the football we played didn't suit my game.

"We were playing long ball and told to fight for the second balls. That's not my game and it meant I was out of my depth.

"The way the gaffer sets up and likes to get the ball wide, it suits me down to a T.

"When he came in, from the start he told us we'd play his way of football or we had to find ourselves a new club. That's the way football should be."

United will aim to continue their promising start to the season when they host familiar opposition on Saturday.

Preston North End were relegated from the Championship alongside the Iron and are still searching for their first League One points of the campaign on the back of crashing 4-2 at home to Colchester last weekend.

Duffy wants the Iron to start strongly on Saturday – and prey on any potential nerves in the visiting camp.

To do that though there needs to be a marked improvement on their League Cup display in which they struggled during the first half at the intimidating Crown Ground.

"Preston want to bounce straight back up, but they had a bad defeat last weekend. If the crowd get behind us and we come out of the traps really quickly, we can probably do some damage," added the former Liverpool trainee.

"We want to entertain the fans after last season, but it's more important to get points on the board. Hopefully we can do both.

"Four points from the first two games, we'd take that, even though when you look back to the Wycombe game we had four or five clear-cut chances.

"We can't afford to start as slowly as we did at Accrington and give that many chances to people.

"The higher you go the more you find that, give away half a chance and the ball will probably be in the back of the net."
