Manager Alan Knill praised Scunthorpe United's second-half performance as they came from a goal down to triumph 3-1 at Leyton Orient.

Having struggled in the final third during a tight opening 45 minutes at Brisbane Road, the Iron took the game by the scruff of the neck after the interval, scoring three times in the final half hour.

It earned them back-to-back wins, on the back of a 1-0 home win against Rochdale on Tuesday night, and left their manager purring at what he described as 'great week'.

"At half-time we sat the players down, changed the shape a little bit more to get people closer to Jon Parkin and it worked really well," said Knill.

"Consequently we had more possession, moved the ball around the pitch better and looked a threat.

"We took our chances, but then I have to say the goals we scored were from some quite good play.

"The first (scored by Josh Walker) was a great goal and with the second, Christian Ribeiro does well to get the byline and cut it back and Barch (Andy Barcham) had gambled at the far post.

"I don't know what happened with the third. Their keeper caught it, but then seemed to land funny and dropped it and Parky (Parkin) just put it in the back of the net.

"It was always going to be difficult because we were away from home.

"But if you get the opportunity to score, you have to take it and today we did."

Knill named an unchanged starting line-up and bench in east London - the first time he has been able to do so in a season affected by a catalogue of injury problems.

He may not be able to continue that trend when Walsall visit Glanford Park on Tuesday, with defender Paul Reid suffering a suspected broken nose in the opening minutes of the win at Orient.

Scunthorpe remain 20th in League One on a good day for sides at the bottom end of the table.

Three of the bottom four - Chesterfield, Walsall, Rochdale – all won, making the midweek match with the Saddlers 'massive'.

"It was a good team performance, made up of some good individual performances. Now we have to keep it going," continued Knill, on the Iron's Orient success.

"We've got three months to make a certain amount of points.

"The sooner we get to get target the better, but this week has been a great start.

"Tuesday is a massive game, as was this one and last Tuesday's.

"It keeps us going forward and it's just as well we won this one looking at the results.

"But I think we're in quite good form and we've got quite a good blend. Everybody looks on their game."

“We all appear to agree, that big Jon needs to be with us all season, in fact if at all possible, we should try our very best to get him full time, this could be possible if we offload the dead wood and long term sick notes at the end of the season.

And as Oldironfan says, lets hope that some of the missing 2,000 regular fans make an effort to return on Tuesday night and next Saturday. I am not blaming these guys for missing the last six or eight home matches, because the team and the playing system has been well below the required standard, and no win since October speaks for itself.

But this has changed some what, so please return and give this present team some support, and bring a friend with you, I am hoping to see 5,000 there on Tuesday night. Lets hope that we can obtain a couple of wins this week, and there is no reason why this is not possible, Walsall one win in last eight, Brentford one win in the last nine.

Actually I have been sleeping an extra two hours per night since Tuesday, so these two wins must be good for supporters health ha ha!

    UP THE IRON !!!”

“Would agree that next Tuesday's game is a massive in terms of consolidating the mini revival. Hopefully the commitment and success on the pitch will draw back the fans who have deserted us over the last few weeks and end that horrible spectacle of so many empty seats at Glanford Park.
Well done everybody for Saturday's performance.”

“If the chairman wants us down then see him returned. He certainly won't get recalled. Pivotal to our survival.”
