Rather like his current team, Shane Duffy is keen to point out he is not the finished article.

In the three games he has played for Scunthorpe United, the on-loan Everton defender's presence and confidence have belied his teenage years.

It helps, he says, that he feels right at home at Glanford Park and is loving every minute of his spell there.

But though the centre-back is grateful to be clocking up minutes on the pitch, he shares Iron fans' frustrations that the same can not be said of points in the table.

Duffy has been with United for only three weeks but has seen enough in that time to express surprise at their current predicament.

It is a situation he is determined to do something about – furthering the club's progress as well as his own.

"We've got a very, very good team and some great players," said Duffy, who has just over a week left to run on an initial one-month stay.

"We've just got to start doing it on the pitch.

"I see it in training, what they can do and the goals they can score, but it's on a Saturday when it matters.

"Hopefully it will start this Saturday against Yeovil.

"I'm impressed with the way we play and the football we're playing.

"Teams in League One sometimes just try to boot it, but we're trying to play proper football.

"All the lads have been brilliant. I love it here.

"Hopefully I've impressed enough to stay on for longer because I would love to stay on for another while.

"I feel comfortable walking in every day and all the lads have been brilliant with me.

"I'm enjoying it.

"I just like playing and the manager, Alan Knill, has been great to me.

"A few coaches from Everton came to watch me at Rochdale and the manager (David Moyes) rang me.

"They're just happy I'm playing.

"Obviously there are a few things I need to sort out in my game because I'm not used to playing.

"But it's coming, and the manager here has been brilliant to me. He's given me loads of confidence, so I'm delighted.

"The manager at Everton has picked up on a couple of little things in my game. I need to sharpen up and I should do better sometimes.

"But he says he's happy enough with me overall and it's going good, so just keep enjoying it and try to get the points for the team.

"It's good that your home club cares about you when you're out on loan, they're not just saying it to get you out of the place.

"But I'm not really focusing on Everton at the moment. I'm focused on Scunthorpe and trying to get points for the team, trying to play well for myself and the team."

Duffy believes he is benefiting from his defensive partnership with Paul Reid.

Although Scunthorpe have conceded four goals in the three games the duo have played together, the 19-year-old is certain the understanding between them is improving quickly.

"I'm still settling in, getting used to the players still and trying to form a partnership with Reidy," he said.

"It's been good playing with him. He helps me a lot and talks to me a lot. In training he's a good lad.

"He knows I'm young and he knows he's experienced, so he knows what to do. He's been there when he was younger.

"We help each other, to be honest, and hopefully we can get stronger the more games we play.

"I like to be a leader, it's just part of my game.

"You can't come into the team and be quiet as a centre-half because then you're going to put the rest of the team in trouble.

"It's just getting to know Paul a bit better and playing alongside him more.

"I think we've been solid enough.

"The first goal on Saturday (in the 2-2 draw at Walsall), from a set-play, was sloppy.

"In the three games I've played, that's the only goal that we really could have done something about."
