Scunthorpe Utd: Quality was missing against AFC Wimbledon - Knill
Boss Alan Knill bemoaned a lack of quality in front of goal after Scunthorpe United were knocked out of the FA Cup.
Luke Moore's second half strike for AFC Wimbledon proved to be the difference in the first round replay at Glanford Park.

DISAPPOINTED: Boss Alan Knill was left to rue a 'poor goal' as Scunthorpe United were knocked out of the FA Cup by AFC Wimbledon
But although disappointed to be out of the competition, Knill stressed he was pleased with his players' reaction after questioning their desire following Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Hartlepool.
"I thought it was a bit better than Saturday. I thought we passed the ball better and moved it around the pitch, especially in the first half," said the United manager.
"You just want something at the end – at both ends.
"Ultimately it was a poor goal we conceded. If you're not playing great and you're not scoring goals and making chances, you've just got to keep it out at your end.
"I thought we had a reaction. I thought first half we had a reaction. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't the greatest performance in the world but it was better than Saturday.
"At least we tried to pass it around the pitch and tried to move it. You take that, it's just you want more.
"I thought they showed the desire. It's just application at the end of it, and some quality.
"We've just got to keep working, put your head down and work harder. That's all we can do at the moment."
Knill admitted Scunthorpe made it difficult for themselves with the manner in which they conceded.
"In the first half it looked like whoever had the counter-attack and had something at the end of it, would score," he said.
"In the end, you've just got to have the quality and we didn't have the quality.
"The goal, we gave it away on the halfway line and it was one pass through the middle of us again.
"We had chances and they had chances, probably without the keepers making great saves, just routine saves.
"We're all disappointed, especially after Saturday. You expect to win, but it wasn't to be.
"When you concede like we conceded, and then when we had the chances, we didn't score, it's difficult.
"I have to say though, well played to Wimbledon.
"They are a good side. I think we really had a better chance when we played them down there. We had really good chances and should have sewn it up then."

“Fans critisise Knill's methods because they don't understand his methods.
Perhaps we should bring in Laws to assist Knill - The so called 'Dream Team'.”

“OK, ok - I try to be positive but that was a poor result last nignt.
We are not going to have a good season and we are in November at the point of damage limitation , which is dissappointing.
However....
Sacking managers and making wholesale changes is not the solution, Knill has to lead the team out of this, we are not going to spend a fortune, we are not going to get a raft of new blood in January and we are not going to get a better manager - at best we will get a different manager which is not what is needed -”

“ET - can you now please stop running the "we need to make it count on the pitch" stories? Please? It's got beyond a joke now. Until we see a marked improvement in both quality and effort, I think it's best for all concerned. The one thing I'd like to see the ET running is comments from Knill and Wharton regarding what they are doing to try to turn this dire situation around? As it is, the last 5 years is being poured down the drain.”

“Well this mess has confirmed wholesale changes from Chairman downwards. The Bean Counter has to fall on his sword, take his hangers on with him together with clueless Knill and half the team.
The RobinJackson's of this site will either stay off until things change or come on with their Comical Ali posts assuring dissenters of blips and just around corners.
Things have gone too far for too long - even Grimsby put a good shift in last night (comments from the usual suspects).”
