Returning front man Jordan Robertson believes he can be the solution to Scunthorpe United’s problems in front of goal.

Prior to Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at Notts County the Iron had failed to find the net in four games.

But after making his comeback as a substitute at Meadow Lane, following four months out with a broken ankle, Robertson is determined to ensure such a run is not repeated.

“I’ve missed the first three and a half months of the season, so hopefully when I get back fully fit I will be fresher,” said the striker.

“And going into Christmas and towards the end of the season, hopefully I can bring a bit of freshness into the team.

“I’ll just work hard for the team basically.

“I like to think I can bring some finishing to the team, and my workrate and holdup play.

“Bobby (Grant) has scored a load of goals and hopefully I can come in and add some more.

“Before Saturday it was four games we hadn’t scored, and sometimes that can play on your mind as a striker.

“Bobby hadn’t scored for four games but he got a great header (against Notts County).

“It was a great ball in by Mark Duffy and a great finish. It didn’t look like he’d not scored for four games with the confidence he showed.”

Robertson admits he is surprised to see United struggling, just two points above the League One drop zone.

After moving to Glanford Park in the summer and enjoying a productive pre-season, the 23-year-old had high hopes for the campaign.

“It hasn’t gone as planned as such, but I think as a team, we all feel it,” said Robertson, who played 90 minutes as the Iron reserves were beaten 7-0 at Sunderland on Tuesday.

“When we lose, it hits us all. We’re all winners in there and we all want to be playing, we all want to win.

“It’s not nice to see, but I think Saturday massively showed how together we are as a team.

“How hard we worked in pre-season, how fit we were as a team, and some of the players we’ve got in the dressing room – there are some great players in there – and then we’ve got the loanees who’ve come in and added quality to the team; maybe you do look at that and think we should be higher.

“But we are where we are and all we’ve got to do is focus on trying to win the next game we play, and the game after that and the game after that.

“I’ve just been working hard knowing that I’m going to be coming into a good team, where I have got good team-mates, a good manager in Alan Knill and good backroom staff.

“I’m hoping to get as many games under my belt as I can in this period to get up to full fitness.”
