Scunthorpe Utd: Trialist trio could feature at Birch Park
ALL three of Scunthorpe United's summer signings will be on parade tomorrow in their opening pre-season friendly at Bottesford Town.
And there could also be some trialists on view.
-

Trial: Stephen Brogan
One is the versatile Stephen Brogan, who played under manager Alan Knill at Rotherham as a youth trainee.
He is looking to rebuild his career after suffering a double leg fracture.
United are also having a look at midfield man Dominic Green and striker Mustafa Tiryaki.
Green has been released this summer by Peterborough, while Turkish-born Tiryaki has left Havant and Waterloovile after failing to agree a new contract.
Every one of the Iron's squad for the 2011/12 campaign is likely to be involved at Bottesford – apart from club skipper Cliff Byrne who is recovering from summer surgery to cure his troublesome back problem.
It means Knill is likely to field two different teams at Birch Park, making wholesale changes in the second half.
United fans will focus most of their attention on Jordan Robertson, Jimmy Ryan and Andy Barcham – the three forward players who have arrived this summer.
Tomorrow's game at Birch Park kicks off at 3pm. Admission is £5, with £2 concessions.

“You're out of here? Best news I've heard in years, just be true to your word.
What colour shorts did we wear when winning League 1 in 2007? That's right it was claret. So that makes us wearing claret shorts throughout the best period in forty years.”

“lol 'supporters' backing two kit changes every twelve months and smiling away at playing in black and white, demanding folk pipe down with any critism of anything and memory loss when it comes to every other pre season....as for claret shorts being tradional and never playing in white shorts...I would have thought even Oscar could spot a wind up merchant?
Enjoy the season - I've had enough 'banter' in here with the four readers...enjoy staring at empty threads cos I'm out of here - its like a day centre!
Up the Iron!”

“Off the top of my head we wore claret shorts from 1990-1992 as well as 2007-2010, you do remember the 2009 play off final don't you? There may well be others if anyone thinks for more than five seconds about it.
Pstoff I suggest you research the said changes regarding the above clubs before you make ill informed comment.”

“Which years have we had claret shorts?
The changes every year in the kit have nothing to do with anything other than commerce and fleecing supporters - Leeds followed Real Madrid aftrer the installation of floodlights, liverpool's red too make them apppear bigger etc.
How are you equating 'tradition' with an annual change of both home/away/third strips/sponsors/designs?
I never buy kits personally but feel it is important that we stick to the right colours, the basic design and do so within a budget so that supporters dont feel short changed - hardly revolutionary thinking amongst most fans.
Up the Iron!”

“Managers do not change kits colours - clubs do. Now run along and ask someone in the next office why they have changed the kit.”

“Did Bill Shankly respect tradition when changing Liverpools shorts from white to red? No.
Did Don Revie respect tradition when changing the Leeds kit from blue and yellow to all white just to emulate Real Madrid? No.
In my time of watching Scunthorpe United which I suspect is longer than yours, we have very rarely worn white shorts, blue, claret and red have all been worn for far more seasons than white. Just because you can trawl up an ancient picture of days before we both were born does not mean white shorts are our traditional colours.
Traditions all must start somewhere as Shankly and Revie amongst many others proved.”

“Ha Ha - so much anger, it's only a game of football y'know.
Try looking at few pictures from the 50's onwards - I believe claret shorts have only made a few appearances and then only since the early/mid 1990's. Our 'traditional' kit is sky blue socks, white shorts and claret torso/sky blue socks.

“I've forgotten more about our traditional colours than you've ever known. It would appear you're the one trying to gain my attention, personally I have no interest in anything you have to say or do, the majority of Iron fans are of the same opinion as me.”

“You walk around with your eyes wide shut, with no idea about our traditional colours, rivalry with Grimsby or the opinions of the supporters. That said, the say impersonation is the highest form of flattery but after alll these years...I think you are just looking for my attention...seems a lack of input on here 'RJ', when Im not around.
Enjoy the season - I think you've just about reached the end of the line now.
Up the Iron!”
