Sitting just outside the relegation zone is not where Scunthorpe United wanted to be after six games of the League One season.

But, with another 40 still to play, defender Andrew Wright is convinced their underwhelming start will have no bearing on where the Iron finish.

Alan Knill's side have yet to register their first league win and are currently 12 points adrift of joint-leaders MK Dons and Sheffield United, with the latter visiting Glanford Park on Saturday.

Wright though, believes the division's early pace-setters can be caught as the ultimate goal remains the same for United.

"If we'd have won six games now, it wouldn't make the next game any easier," he said.

"Every game that you go into is tough.

"Sheffield United is a tough game, and whether we'd won six or lost six, it would be just as tough.

"We've not discussed reassessing any aims.

"We're aiming for the same things as we were at the start of the season, and the ultimate aim is to get promotion.

"It's a marathon not a sprint.

"We've obviously had a little bit of bad fortune at the moment and haven't picked up the points we wanted to, but hopefully we can go on a run.

"The teams that are flying up there at the moment will have lulls and dips. Hopefully this is ours and once we get through it we can start making tracks."

A positive performance, personally and collectively, in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Colchester has given Wright the belief that will happen sooner rather than later.

"I'm pleased personally, but at the same time, I'd rather be in a team that's winning every week and not playing as well. It's frustrating," he said.

"But personally I'm pleased with what I've been doing so far.

"I feel like it's just so close to all clicking into place. Eventually, once it does and once we do start to win a couple of games, it will fall into place.

"Hopefully then we can win a few games back to back and start to climb up the table."
