Scunthorpe bowls team fend off late fightback
THERE was a welcome victory for Scunthorpe when they travelled to Dunholme in the Lincolnshire County Mixed Bowls League.
Neither team was able to secure an early lead, but by the halfway stage the visitors had taken an overall lead, 53 shots to 44.

At this point Dunholme started to reduce Scunthorpe's lead slightly, but the visitors stuck to their task and fended off this late fightback to run out winners, 16 points to two (105 shots to 85).
Sylvia Lammas, Bill Hutson, Greta Deboer and Alex Mullin were in control throughout their match and won 22-10.

John Rayner, June Wressell, Margaret Dargue and Graham Teal were also in dominant form, securing a 24-15 victory.
Vickly Watts, Vince Hardie, Edna Cook and Jim Davidson developed an early lead and with some quality bowling emerged the victors by 22 shots to 16.
Glenda Martinson, Jean Hardie, Dennis Rhodes and Ray Robinson were involved in a tough battle but managed to keep their noses in front and finished up with a 21-18 result.
The final rink for Scunthorpe of Vinny Bolton, Vera Gleghorn, Len Lammas and Josey Rayner found their opponents on extremely good form, eventually losing 28-16.
