Scunthorpe chosen as 'cycle hub'
SCUNTHOPRE has been chosen as one of just 10 major train stations nationally to get a new cycle hub.
The Government has chosen the town to get a share of £5-million to create the new hub which will include extra cycle storage facilities, repair services, rentals and improved cycle access to and from the stations.

The aim is to encourage rail passengers in North Lincolnshire to bike to the stations when commuting to work or for leisure.
The other stations included in the scheme include: Leeds, London St Pancras, London Victoria, London Waterloo, Grimsby, Hull, Liverpool Lime Street, Sheffield and York.
The news comes just weeks after the town hosted the start of the Tour of Britain, which saw top cyclists compete arrive in the area for the major event.
Transport Secretary Andrew Adonis made the announcement today.
He said: "The aim of the programmes announced today is to boost the significant number of people cycling to catch their train.
"This will tackle congestion, promote rail travel and help people develop healthier lifestyles and protect the environment."
The hubs will be created in the next two years.

“Is this so commuters can travel between the train station and bus station like a 'proper town' with integrated travel?”

“In answer to the comment below,
Thats because the cycle paths are there as an alternative option for us, there is nothing compulsory about having to use them.”

“This is brilliant. It will go well with the shared footway/cycleway down Lakeside/Timberland. Every-time I've seen a cyclist down there, they've been in the road and not on the cycle track.”

“I do hope that if the cycle population increases the council will find the money to make room on all pathways as the numbers riding on the paths will also increase the fault for this is all on the councils shoulders remember we are still in a very bad ressesion daft ideas should be left on the top shelf.”

“As a regular train user, there are very few cyclists using the train. All you need to do is go to the station and check the cycle racks. The most i've seen are three. I applaud the initiative for big cities but it's not a huge need round here from my experience.”

“Who thinks this stuff up. With al this bad summer weather we have had can you honestly see any one leaving the car at home to catch a train. No. They will probably ask a friend or Husband or Wife for a lift. The country is a fruit and nut case.”
