John Leggott College is also closed and has cancelled its forthcoming parents evening, which was due to take place tonight.
Council officials are calling on motorists to be careful on the roads. If people are driving in winter weather, they should allow plenty of extra time for the journey and only travel if it is absolutely necessary.
The weather is not expected to improve this week, remaining very cold with further snow showers and the possibility that the weather may get worse on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“Schools remained open in the olden days because most teachers and students lived in the town/village they taught/studied at. My 10 ten old worked that out for himself! SIMPLES”

“I can't understand why in this day and age, schools can't put news of their closures on the internet. Trying to listen to the radio while I get three lively children ready for school is a pain!”

“Here we go again - let's slate all teachers for schools closing when the truth is we have no say in the decisions made. I, like the vast majority of teachers, genuinely care about my pupils' education, have not missed a day and do not intend on doing so, give up most of my holidays to take pupils abroad, etc.
As a teacher, here is a word some of you could perhaps learn overnight?
STEREOTYPING.
I don't usually post so much on here, but when some people put such idiotic posts on here just to have a go at hard working members of the public, it annoys me a great deal.
I've said it many a time before - those moaning about how easy a life it is being a teacher should follow their own advice and become a teacher themselves. After all, it's a doddle, is very well paid, there is very little work to do and it's the teachers themselves who choose to close the schools in question right? Wrong. On every account. It's all about red-tape and the pathetic Health & Safety laws schools are bound to, nothing more.
How many parents would be up in arms if their child's school stayed open only for their son or daughter to be involved in a bus crash on the school run, or for them to sall at school and break a bone - the UK = sue culture gone mad.
To many, teaching is a free babysitting service, nothing more. However I truly love my job and will always be a teacher - that's what matters, not some pathetic comments on here.
Good night.”

“When I was a child, we had worse winters than we do now but I don't ever remember schools closing early!! If teachers were not paid for non-attendance, which we are all paying for, bet the attendance would increase.”

“What annoys me is when schools complain about parents taking kids out of school on hol, but they don't seem to mind closing because two snowflakes have fallen. Hypocritical. I work at the hos[ital and staff come from as far as Sheffield to get there, and they usually manage it so why can't teachers.”

“Bowmandale in Barton was closed today, all 3 other schools were open as far as i'm aware. Bowmandale always seems to close at the first sign of snow. If the other schools manage to stay open why can't Bowmandale?”

“We took the kids out today. SOme of which didn't bother to bring a coat, one had no shoe laces (and wondered why he got snow in his shoes), others no gloves, others unzipped coats, trainers. Some sensible parents but some complete muppets some times it seems the teachers have to protect the kids from their parents. If you are that bothered about not being paid I suggest a bit of research and seeing which schools consistently close at the first sign of bad weather.”

“if schools closing is because they are worried about being sued then keep the children in the classroom/ hall at breaks. seriously schools need to get on with this - its not fair on working parents (i.e. most of us)”

“I live near Grimsby and teach in Scunthorpe. I managed to get into work today but many of my colleagues didn't. I wonder what they were doing all day? Working? They were paid the same as me and I had the usual travel costs.”
