POLICE caught a driver speeding – while he was on his way to a speed awareness course.

Leszek Klejnglas, 34, of Heron Close, Scunthorpe, admitted driving at 38mph in a 30mph limit and driving with only a provisional licence in Winterton on July 3.

Klejnglas told North Lincolnshire magistrates he was on his way to a speed awareness course in Barton when he was caught.

His wife had originally been due to supervise him but she felt unwell, he said.

He tried unsuccessfully to find a friend to accompany him and "made a hasty decision" to drive unsupervised because he was "desperate" and "stressed", he said.

He told the court he had been offered the speed awareness course by the police after an earlier incident in which he had broken a 30mph speed limit.

Presiding magistrate Wendy Bomberg warned Klejnglas he was not safe to be on the road.

Klejnglas was fined £115, banned from driving for two months and ordered to pay £40 costs and a Government-imposed £15 victims' surcharge.

“We should deport any immigrant who breaks the law more than once or (slightly off topic) who doesn't want to pay tax, national insurance or as we see more often drives not in accordance with the law or is uninsured.

I am all for immigration for law abiding hard working people. Our country is built on it but we need better and harsher ground rules and one of those is a basic understanding of how WE have to live and the laws WE have to live by.

Gordinio, I appreciate your support BUT I think you will find I talk more sense than most on here.”

“Mr Hall, for once I'm not pulling you down about your post, in fact I've given you a thumbs up.

One of the daftest excuses I've ever come across for speeding was a ENT (ear, nose and throat) specialist who claimed he was over the speed limit as he was going to help a man who had cut his own throat!”
