A Scunthorpe man has been found not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter following the death of chicken factory worker.

Lithuanian Aleksandras Aleksiunas, 26, of Burke Street, denied murdering Arvydas Skrinkas at Cottager’s Dale Woods, near Great Limber, between December 24 and January 10.

He and Lithuanian co-defendant Arundas Gervelis, 25, of Dale Street, Scunthorpe, denied falsely imprisoning Mr Skrinkas and his girlfriend, Agne Jozenaite, on December 24 and falsely imprisoning Miss Jozenaite on December 25.

The jury at Hull Crown Court returned its verdicts around 3pm yesterday (Wednesday, September 26).

Aleksiunas was cleared of murder but convicted of manslaughter on a majority verdict of 10 to two.

He was unanimously convicted of falsely imprisoning Mr Skrinkas and Miss Jozenaite on Christmas Eve.

The jury was unable to reach a verdict on the other charge of falsely imprisoning Miss Jozenaite on Christmas Day.

Co-defendant Gervelis was cleared of both offences of false imprisonment.

Aleksiunas is expected to be sentenced today (Thursday, September 27).
