Jayne Wilson, prosecuting, said officers were called to the Cocked Hat, Scunthorpe, on September 21 after reports of a domestic between Dawson and Chantelle Parkin.

The prosecutor said when they arrived, both the defendant and victim were heavily in drink and police noted the latter had bruising and swelling around her eye and upper lip, as well as scratches to her body.

During police interview, the complainant also made an allegation of a similar assault last April. Both offences put Dawson in breach of a 24-month suspended sentence issued in November 2010 for battery.

Richard Lunn, mitigating, said the relationship was "tumultuous" and that head injuries she sustained were caused by her stumbling, but Dawson accepted it was the push that led to those injuries.

In addition to jail, he was given a two-year order to stop him contacting Miss Parkin or going within 100 yards of her home.
