Scunthorpe progress to next round after tough test
Scunthorpe A Men came through a tough encounter when they met Skegness A in the National Over-60s Double Rinks Knockout Competition which involves one rink at home and one rink away.
The home rink of John Hopkinson, Tom Whiteley, Jim Davidson and Ray Robinson slotted into their rhythm from the off.
Playing some excellent bowls the home four built on their early advantage and by the halfway stage had extended their lead to 12-3 shots.
The visiting quartet fought hard to edge their way back into the game but could not stop the home four from winning the battle 28-12.

The other Scunthorpe rink of Neil Rowe, Alex Mullin, Phil Boulton and Phil Parker found their opposition in fine form.
The Skegness rink bolted out of the starting blocks and secured an early 8-2 advantage.
Looking comfortable, the home four produced some quality bowls to control the game and take a 14-5 lead by the halfway point.
The home rink maintained their hold on the game as the Scunthorpe rink made every effort to claw the deficit back but eventually lost 23-15.
The final overall result was a triumphant victory to the Scunthorpe team by 43 shots to 35 and a welcomed place in the next round of the competition against Horncastle.
