Scunthorpe's Liz Smith backs tree protest
A SCUNTHORPE celebrity has lent her support to campaigners fighting to save a threatened trackside stretch of trees.
Liz Smith, famous for roles including Nana in hit comedy the Royle Family, has written a letter of support to protesters in Brumby Wood Lane.

In a handwritten letter, 86-year-old Liz wrote: "We need all the green we can get in our lives, otherwise the whole place will be turned into concrete."
In August, Network Rail informed residents it wanted to remove a mile-long stretch of trackside trees instead of continuing annual maintenance work.
A public meeting on the issue will be held at Pittwood House on Thursday.
Residents started up a campaign to try and prevent the work, which they believe is unnecessary.
