Two shoplifters were caught red-handed after stealing perfume from a supermarket, a court heard.

Hayley Fernandez, 27, of Whitman Road, Scunthorpe, admitted stealing a bottle of perfume and her ex-boyfriend, Mark Foster, 33, of Hadleigh Court, Scunthorpe, admitted stealing two bottles of perfume on August 2.

Martin Howarth, prosecuting, told North Lincolnshire Magistrates' Court that the pair were spotted in Asda, in Burringham Road, Scunthorpe. Foster slipped two gift boxes inside a rucksack and Fernandez hid a tester bottle inside her jacket pocket.

David Rix, mitigating, said the pair were stealing the items to sell. Foster did not have any recent theft convictions and Fernandez, who has a nine-month-old daughter, was doing well on a community order. The offence was a "blip", he said.
