ARE parking problems and queues of traffic making your shopping trips to Scunthorpe a nightmare?

For one contributor to the Scunthorpe Telegraph's Viewpoint column, the situation is 'ridiculous'.

Read their letter and then have your say on the matter.

I AM writing to you with comments about your retail park in Scunthorpe.

The shops and staff are fabulous; I enjoy my trips to the area.

The retail park is two minutes away from my home.

I enjoy looking around the garden centre and frequenting the clothes shops and food establishments.

My qualm is the car parking situation in front of B&Q, Toys R Us, TK Maxx and Next.

If I park in Tesco car park it can be difficult to leave, but okay.

If I park in the afore said car park I find approximately six lines of traffic trying to join the main exit.

I was very lucky on Saturday; it took me only 20 minutes to get out of the car park. The week before on the Sunday, 30 minutes!

On a football day I may as well get my sleeping bag out.

It’s ridiculous having one exit for the sheer volume of traffic.

Emergency services, such as an ambulance, would have a job getting out of the car park; let us hope there is never an emergency down there.

I understand that there are peak times, but it’s easier to park in Tesco or across, near the food outlets. It is so frustrating.

The temporary traffic lights do nothing but stop the traffic leaving even when the roundabout from Tesco is clear.

    “Daniel and white van man...
OK I might live within walking distance, but when I purchase heavy bulky items from the stores I need my transport. Unless yo will you volunteer to carry them home for me free of charge.”

“If the m181 terminated as it approached the viaduct and a road was put in parralel to the railway coming out on scotter bottom at a round about and brumbywood lane was upgraded to the kingsway .The spur between the new end of motor way and the old end of the motor way down graded to dual carraige way. I'm sure would solve or at least aleviate the problems at Gallagher and the Berkley circles”

“parking is now a problem all around town, council has failed us yet again, building flats with no parking areas making street congestion a even bigger problem houses and flats should all now be made to include of road parking , other councils have made builders do this but scunthorpe just want to waste tax payers money , on silly projects, rather than clean town up , whent into scunthortpe yesterday car parks empty but streets fully parked had to weave through the parked cars to get into car park then wait for double parked taxi drivers to finish chatting before being allowed to enter car park, now i will only shop in town if really forced to ,”

“This was always the problem with edge of town developments which was Government policy back in the 80s. These companies have chosen to set themselves up here and they should be made to pay to resolve any problems they have caused. The Council only has our money why should we pay for the problems huge private businesses have caused? I'd much rather my money went into something like the new Baths than on a road to help Tesco's make even more money!”

“Steady on folks, unless you are up to facing the devious and deceitful tactics, threats and public disrespect that comes from rightly challenging any inept and disreputable political, legal and democratic system- that are seemingly prepared to orchestrate, collude, defend and protect themselves and their system at all costs to their actual public image and reputations!”

“UNfortunately we have a Council, it's Officers and a 'Road Safety Partnership' who all regard chronic congestion as a legitimate means of traffic calming. If no-one is speeding then everything must be OK, and there are no green votes in traffic schemes. Until we clear out those idiots and put someone with some commoon sense and intelligence in charge then nothing will change. :(”

“All the parking problems you speak about can be firmly laid at the council, wether it be NLC or Humberside.Schemes such as Gallagher Pk were allowed to go ahead with no thoughts of traffic problems in the future. How long have we been waiting for a scheme to relieve the problems at the Berkley circle? Now that seems to have been forgotten and the emphasis has shifted to the Tesco circle, next step to the M181 circle as they havent a clue to do about the other two!Until we get a responsible council and not one that prioritises schemes like the Baths Hall and the Pods(aka Kirks Follies)nothing will be done and the problem will intensify not go away.”
