Scunthorpe tweeters have taken to social networking site Twitter to defend the town after it was voted the least romantic destination in the UK by a poll.

“I can think of a couple of "romantic" places in North Lincolnshire, but Scunthorpe? Can anyone think of a romantic place in Scunthorpe itself?”

“ROFL I dare say at the risk of more futile outpourings of venom and bile from certain of Scunthorpe's rednecks!

Whatever the loyalties and delusions of those misguided souls?! For many more, surely there can be no disputing of one Mail Online poster's seemingly far more informed and astute perception of Scunthorpe:

"Nothing wrong with Scunthorpe its the people that are supposed to be running the town they are the ones that are killing the town" - - not a fan , Grimsby, France, 07/2/2013 10:12
