Oldham Athletic were not tempted by Iron's Taylor bid

SCUNTHORPE United are already plotting their next move into the loan market - less than 24 hours after the January transfer window closed.

Manager Ian Baraclough has confirmed he will step up his search for a left winger next week, when clubs are allowed to recruit players again on loan, as a replacement for Martyn Woolford.

While Woolford was travelling to Bristol City to discuss terms and undergo a medical, United were again talking to League One side Oldham Athletic about Chris Taylor.

But with the talented wide man under contract for another 18 months, Scunthorpe could not tempt the Latics to part with their most prized asset.

That avenue now looks to be closed, much to Baraclough's disappointment.

“We put a very good bid in for Chris. It was as far as we could go,” declared the United chief, whose side had an initial £250,000 bid rejected last week.

“But Oldham just would not relent.

“They are up there in a play-off spot in League One and I suppose quite rightly want to hold on to their prize asset.

“He is not out of contract in the summer so they were not in a position where they needed to cash-in on him now.”

Taylor had also been linked with Premier League side Blackpool and Burnley, though it is unclear whether either actually made an offer for the player.

“If we'd signed Taylor he would have been the ugliest player to have played for Scunthorpe.”

“Its sad to see wooly leave the club but he has earned it as for a replacment we should be loolking at a premiership youngster who might be on the way to being let go by his parent club one that is hungry and looking to prove him self also it was good to see nelson sign on the dotted line just before the close of the window”

“Why has no-one, and I mean no-one nationwide, signed Donal McDermott on loan? He looked really lively for us in his fleeting appearances.”

“I don't know what we were expecting? A club in a league status battle wanting to let one of their best players leave. Suicide.”
