SCUNTHORPE United boss Ian Baraclough confessed he did not see United's late second half collapse coming.

After being in the game for over an hour, the Iron suddenly shipped three goals in the closing 17 minutes to finish well beaten by rivals Hull City.

"Apart from the first five minutes, I thought we were the dominant side," he insisted.

"We did not want half-time to come because we were playing well.

"Coming in at half-time I certainly didn't see a 5-1 defeat coming.

"But individual mistakes are costing us."

The biggest of those came from new centre-back Michael Nelson at the beginning of the second half, with a headed back-pass that gifted Hull a 2-0 lead.

"He has held his hand up for that goal," said Baraclough.

"But it was the only mistake he made in the whole game. I thought he was immense for us."

The United boss admitted that another early first half goal had left his side the proverbial mountain to climb.

"It is very difficult to try to come back from," he confessed.

"It puts you on the back foot and creates uncertainty which spreads around the rest of the team.

"We have just got to learn from the mistakes we are making and quickly try to improve."

“Dave, we can all remember times when we`ve been to Feethams, The Shay, York Street, Home Park etc..... Just because you`ve been to York in the snow doesn`t make you anymore of a supporter than anyone else.

The things that are going to take this club back to the basement are Wharton`s apparent apathy to the club`s current situation, Barraclough`s ineptitude and the squads general lack of quality and depth.”

“I can't believe what i'm reading. What are you going to do for 'your latest trick' Barra, the supporters are losing faith, they won't pay their 'money for nothing' you know. This isn't a fairytale, its not 'romeo and juliet' with a happy ending. The chairman seems to want us to go down, so 'why worry', your job seems to be safe but your ideas are 'so far away' from getting us out of the mire. We need some 'brothers in arms' to help, maybe 'calling elvis' might get the crowds back.
Yes folks, we're in dire straits. Can't think of anymore, I'm bored now, but it cheered me up for a bit.”

“We will not get out of this not with a team that has no creative players or a strike force. I think we just need to enjoy the next 13 weeks in the NPC. If someone had said 10 years ago we would have bk to bk season in the 2nd tier of english football you would of thought i was mental. The club has done us proud beyond belief. As for you lot saying you will stay away from games grow up. It's that attitude that will see the club go back down to the basement, but when we are doing well you big up the club and want to be part of it. Real supporters go through thick and thin with their team, i remember being stood in the snow in York losing 5-0 in the 4th division.”

So predictable Mr Baraclough. How you are still in a job astounds me. How many more "mistakes" are you going to be allowed to make? To say you thought we were the dominant side beggars belief.”

“This is what you get with a tight fisted club promoting within, instead of getting some one experienced to replace the last manager, years of hard work down the drain and the loyal fans demoralised.”
