Short amount of recovery time is having effect on Scunthorpe players

TIREDNESS is becoming a factor for boss Ian Baraclough when it comes to picking his Scunthorpe United starting line-up.

With tonight's game at Barnsley the Iron's fourth in 10 days, he accepts there are some players who may benefit from a rest on the sidelines.

Winger Mark Duffy could be one of those to profit from a spell on the substitutes' bench against Swansea, with a recall on the cards against the Tykes.

"There was a great amount of work put in on Saturday against Swansea," said Baraclough.

"And, although the players won't admit it, you can see they're not all going to be 100 per cent going into the next game.

"People will say, what's wrong with two games in a week, it should be easy if you're not training that much.

"But your body is put through so much that it needs time to recover.

"It's been scientifically proven that three or four days isn't enough time for your body to recover.

"You don't fully replenish your energy levels.

"If you look at the rugby union sides, they only play weekends.

"I know that's more of a contact game, but your body needs that time to recover.

"If there's a change to be made, then it won't be for the sake of it.

"But if I feel it can benefit us, then I'm quite happy to make one or two changes."

“Stop making excuses Bara. Your better players were rested on Saturday and there is a full NPC fixture tonight so is it just us?

Get yer backside in gear and get the three points instead of whining on here about why we will lose tonight.

It's very much a winnable game if you go to win.”

“These are supposed to be professional footballers. They should be able to handle 2 games a week. Just don't train so hard between matches, it's not rocket science.”
