PARTY fever hit the Carnival Inn as six starry-eyed contestants took to the stage for the third heat of this year Pub Idol competition.

The supportive crowd helped to create an electric atmosphere at the venue on Tofts Road in Barton-Upon-Humber on Monday night.

The six singers put in the performance of their lives in the hope it would bring them one step closer to the prestigious Pub Idol trophy.

Ian Helps, 26, from Estate Avenue Broughton was the first lucky contestant to secure a place in this years final.

The Forest Pines barman impressed the judging panel with his renditions of; If you don't know me by now - written by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff and Wherever I lay me hat (That's my home) -by Marvin Gaye.

"Monday night was great fun - I was a little bit nervous on my first song but I managed to pull it together on the second.

"I think Pub Idol is a brilliant competition - it is a great stepping stone for people.

"I have been singing since I was at school and I have entered Pub Idol a number of times before.

"This year I think I will try and go professional."

Emma Watson, 18, from Ermine Street, Broughton took the second place slot for this years grand final which will take place on grand final will be held at the Reeds Hotel in Barton-Upon-Humber in September.

"I could not believe it when the judges announced I was in the final.

"I was really chuffed and it felt great - Ian was a deserving winner, he was brilliant.

"Taking to the stage was a bit nerve wrecking but the crowd were brilliant and they were really supportive.

"I am now going to put in lots of practice so I can do my best in the final."

Other contestants which took to the stage in heat three were; Lynne Price, 38, from Laurel Way, Timberlands, Andrew Ward, 23, Westwinds Road, Winterton, Rebecca Huby, 20, Hillside Farm, Wrawby and Elly Dolan, 38, Southview Broughton.

Heat four will take place on Monday, August 17 at The Beacon on Burringham Road, Scunthorpe.
