CLEATHAM TROUT: A quiet week so far as angler numbers were concerned. But those venturing out found that sinking line tactics were best. Sometimes a booby on the point and a couple of crunchers on the droppers would work. Other times a black lure such as those used by Mick Pollock would do the trick.

THORPE VALE TROUT: Cold, snow and rain have all conspired to make it hard for the anglers. But the fish have responded well to the anglers who have put lines on the water and both lures and wet flies on and under the water. Both lakes producing decent fish despite a heavy run-through of water at times.

TOFT NEWTON TROUT: Fifty-nine rods caught 209 fish, rod average 3.5. Cold, cold and cold again!

Pete Cowan showed his mates how to do it on Tuesday, making his arrival noticed with six fish out in just a couple of hours, washing line method on an intermediate line, small booby on the point and a couple of crunchers on the droppers. The 'Scouse stroke' was the favoured retrieve!
