DAREDEVILS from across the country will flock to North Lincolnshire for a prestigious competition this weekend.

The National Skydiving Championships are being held at Hibaldstow Airfield, with around 50 teams expected to compete.

The meeting will kick off with the formation four-way category, where current world champions Bodyflight Storm will look to defend their national title.

Another highlight will be a brand new discipline called Vertical Formation Skydiving (VFS).

This is the art of building formations in free-fall while taking on high-speed body positions such as feet-first or head-down.

The event will be staged for the first time in this country at the Hibaldstow championships, and four-man team Outbreak Vertical has high hopes of becoming its first champions.

The team, made up of captain Jim Harris, Dan Parker, Andy Ford and Mark Joyner, started training together last year.

Mr Harris said: "We're a group of skydivers who love the challenge of flying our bodies in any possible orientation, and we're really excited about the upcoming national championships.

"We've been training really hard over the past couple of months, and we hope it pays off."

“Ah stop moaning, I have spent an enjoyable few hours at the airfield watching the jumps today. Why Betty thinks they are flying in a wreckless manner beats me.”

“Actually TWO aircraft started at 7-30 this morning and are still swooping over the town now.

There is a constant buzzing that is hard to avoid even indoors.

Is it legal to fly over a built up area in this wreckless manner?”

“Oh Joy of Joys, If we do get any sun this weekend & sit out in the garden, all we'll hear all day is that aircraft buzzing back & forth.
Hmmmm Hmmmmmm 09:00 to 21:00 hrs. non-stop; Gaining height over Brigg, depositing divers over Hibaldstow then RAPIDLY shedding height OVER Brigg again.

Why must this 35+ year old plane fly over built-up areas?
God help us if a bit drops off or worse if when it is 'dive bombing' the town a holiday jet from Humberside Airport gets in it's way.

I hope it rains this weekend.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!”
