Slashing CO2 emissions from homes
CARBON emissions will be slashed by thousands of tonnes per year thanks to a drastic home improvement scheme.
Environmentally-friendly improvements to 700 North Lincolnshire Homes (NLH) properties will slash an annual 1,700 tonnes of CO2 from the region's carbon footprint.

The gas is the equivalent to the amount which would be created by 700 cars driving 10,000 miles each.
The green achievement will be made by bringing old, draughty homes up to standard with new insulation, doors, windows and more.
Neil Webster, head of investment at NLH, said: "The work will have a two-fold impact, both of which are extremely important.
"The increased insulation and improved windows and roofs will dramatically improve the efficiency of the homes, reducing CO2 and therefore providing a positive environmental impact.
"As well as this, our tenants are set to benefit when they will see big reductions in their energy bills – ideal during difficult financial times."
Work began last year and the first homes, including some on Queensway, Scunthorpe, are already fully renovated.
There, house intended as temporary properties when they were built after the Second World War were given new roofs, cladding, doors and double glazing.
NLH is spending £12-million on the houses and flats, and next in line are the Trent View House high rises.

“According to the boiler scrappage scheme, old boilers are the largest contributors of CO2. This Government has absolutely no idea of what is right or wrong with anything.”

“All this about CO2 emissions is another excuse to make more money out of us. I am sick to death of hearing about it. You will NEVER stop climate change - it is inevitable!!”

“Hmmm I think some figures may be wrong.
They tell us that driving our car is the most CO2 creating thing we do. But here we find out that our house LOOSES more energy than our car uses in a year.
This leads me to believe that our houses must be the largest CO2 producer and not our cars.
So Mr Brown - the telegraph has proved that our cars are not as larger CO2 producer as you say. Please cut our huge vehicle green taxes.”

“Demolish the houses now and start again with 'Zero Carbon' Houses as will be law by 2016.
As stated in this story, the Queensway homes were temporary and should of been demolished back in the 1950s. I don't know how the Council/NLHs can pat themselves on the back - when they have acted 50 odd years too late.”
