A North Lincolnshire Council gritter in action

North Lincolnshire Council gritters have been out in force today, making sure the roads and streets are safe.

Rob Beales, Head of Better Routes at North Lincolnshire Council, said:  "We are expecting some colder weather between now and the weekend. "Our winter service team has been on standby since the start of November and will be on standby until the last week of March.""Using information about the weather and road conditions from a number of sources (including the MeteoGroup, road sensors and visual inspections of road conditions), our highway's engineers will decide whether to take action and salt. "We are urging drivers to take extra care in bad weather – just because a road has been salted doesn't mean it won't be slippery, especially where the recent rain has caused water to run off from nearby land onto the highway."

    “@Mozart,

So how many school buses were involved in accidents on those roads? PCV drivers are professionals who know how to cope with difficult driving conditions unlike the numpties who haven't got a clue and drive around as if it was a summer's day.

I think NLC try to do the best they can. Not every road can be treated. Current conditions with cold road surfaces, overnight rain which washes away or dilutes salt previously applied and freezing dawns mean that many roads will become icy before the gritters can get round to them.

It's called winter - live with it.”

“Some minor roads (on school bus routes) were like ice rinks at 8am this morning thanks to our utterly useless council.”

“Oh Gosh, we're all doomed, doomed I tell ya

I need to get plenty of wool in ASAP, I'll make a killing knitting some windscreen covers & tyre warmers

In all seriousness though, please take care when out on the roads over the next month or so, I'd get real lonely on here by myself”
