Sharon Smith with Sonny, the environmentally minded springer spaniel
Sonny's owner, Sharon Smith, of Meadow Road, Scunthorpe, explained how Sonny became so environmentally friendly.
She said: "Sonny is such a scavenger, so he is always picking up rubbish in the hope of finding something edible.
"We taught him to put things in the bin rather than ripping them to pieces and it started to become a bit of a game for him.
"Every time he goes for a walk he brings back a can, plastic bottle, sandwich wrapper or other litter.
"And when we get home we ask him which bin does it go in and he drops it in the appropriate bin.
"We have started calling him a Womble because he really does help to keep Britain tidy."
