Starring role at Scunthorpe earns Nunez a chance at Leeds
AFTER impressing on loan at Scunthorpe United, Ramon Nunez will now be given the chance to do the same at parent club Leeds United.
Whites boss Simon Grayson has taken up the option to extend the midfielder's contract by a further year following his sparkling form with the Iron.
-
NEW DEAL: Ramon Nunez.
Nunez signed off at Glanford Park with a superb individual strike in Saturday's final day draw with Portsmouth.
It brought his goal tally up to three from eight appearances in claret and blue.
And Grayson has challenged the Honduran international to create a similarly positive impression back at Elland Road.
"We signed Ramon in January until the end of the season, but with an option for another year," Grayson said.
"He is a talented player and he's proved that by doing well at Scunthorpe so we have decided to exercise that option.
"Ramon will come back in the summer with an opportunity to make an impression here."
Scunthorpe boss Alan Knill had consistently been an admirer of Nunez, and though a permanent deal was always unlikely, with wages identified as a stumbling block, there always remains a possibility of another loan deal next season.

“A good talent but would get crushed in league 1.”

“Plenty more out there - this player was a FREE transfer for Leeds and obviously a player with great ability.
If we are to believe that Knills plan is to sign U24's as 'investment signings' (something every manager attempts before realising that cash is required to balance a side with experience AND youth)...then we should be the ones signing players like Nunez....with a scouting system as ambitious as ours (players must be white, free, no previous record) we are always going to be struggling.
If United are truelly committed to improving we need a youth system and scouting network that goes a bit further than York - lets look 's replacement?
Up the Iron!”

“Sorry to see him go-a joy to watch. We need to give people a reason to come back next season, and signing an exciting player or two would help.”

“GUTTED we can't get hold of this guy for next season. With him in the side we'd be pushing for promotion.”
