Their first taste of Glamping – or glamorous camping – gave the Robinson family from Scunthorpe a healthy appetite for the great outdoors.

Their pioneering weekend saw dad Phil, mum Natalia and their children Holly, Hannah and Theo heading for the heart of North Yorkshire and an introduction to Jollydays.

Natalia said: "Both Phil and I were complete novices when it came to camping - so it was a case of going into the unknown.

"As it turned out experience was not necessary. When we arrived a very professional woman met us and explained the dos and don'ts of the campsite at Buttercrambe.

"We were then given a wheel barrow to transport our luggage from the car to our accommodation. This was a first and as it turned out, the best way to transport our goods.

"We walked for a short time in the beautiful forest, admiring the idyllic setting, then we were presented with a super-smart, tented safari lodge.

"It had the lot. You name it – chandelier, sofas wooden floors and wood-burning stoves. OK, it was not exactly the Hilton Hotel but it was real luxury in the outdoors and we were in tune with nature. The kids chose their beds. We had our own four-poster bed and lovely white linen.

"It was a surprise to be treated to such luxury considering we were in the middle of nowhere.

"The best way to describe our accommodation was to take any scene from Lawrence of Arabia, remove the sand, get rid of the camels and drop the temperature, then you hit the nail on the head.

"It was also very pleasing to note the owners Christian and Carolyn Van Outersterp put their complete trust in their guests.

"The site operates a shop that relies on a honesty payment system."

The main camp of Jollydays comprised of ten lodge tents and the family insists it fully lived up to its name. Their Buttercrambe site is the culmination of a 15-year dream to combine a love of camping and comfortable and chic hotels

Natalia said: "We crammed as much as possible into our visit and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The only down-sides to our visit was the journey home.

"Jollydays have up to 22 tents at present, 15 of them either deluxe or luxury models. Christian and Carolyn and their four children live close by and are often on site overnight."
