Striker search is slow burner for Scunthorpe
GOAL scoring forwards appear to be something of a premium commodity at present, a fact Scunthorpe United have found to their detriment.
Iron manager Alan Knill is close to completing his transfer dealings for the summer, but would still prefer to add a striker to his squad.

With only Jordan Robertson joining as an out and out forward, Knill admits the attacking recruitment process is going slower than he expected, and much slower than desired.
"We have got some names to pursue but it is going quite slowly," said the Scunthorpe boss.
"It might take longer than we had thought.
"I'd like strikers in right now, don't get me wrong.
"But it doesn't work like that."
There is a suggestion that Knill may yet be contented with the squad at his disposal, should he fail to get another forward in before the first game of the season, on August 6, at Wycombe Wanderers.
"We have got players who can play up top – we have got (Andy) Barcham, who can play through the middle if we are really struggling," continued Knill.
"Jimmy Ryan can play off the strikers as well, so we have got plenty of players for those positions. "I think we are okay in the top positions."

“I would imagine that, regardless of the contractual pay reductions caused by relegation, that the pay levels of the current squad are still too high for this league and are the reason for the lack of activity in the market.
Pstoff is right in saying that it will be a poor season. Knill will have to wait until the end of it to unload the overpaid, underperforming players that Adkins and Bara left us with. i fancy that Wharton will capitalise on O'Connor in the January window. A good half season will attract bids and with then just six months to go to the end of his contract, he will be sold.
The fan base is pathetic (and pathetically small) and Wharton has kept us alive. Nevertheless, it should now be obvious that he is part of the problem rather than part of the solution.
So another season at away matches !! Roll on Wycombe, lets see how we do against a Lge1/2 team. I am not full of optimism.”

“One should not cast light on pre-season friendlies. They are nothing more than training sessions, no silverware or status involved. There is, for those who can see through the situation, cause for concern as it is cleat Knill does not have any money to buy players - he has to rely on our best player to be sold.
I didn't expect anything big this season but this situation is far below the lowest I expected. There is time left but given the two latest snippets it does not look good. We are getting force fed players who have failed us once again, just as Forte was last season. We have an abundance of wingers now but are poorly covered at full back and CM (especially when O'Connor goes).
Knill will buy sensibly, you can tell he is no where near being a Bara or even an Adkins to some degree. He has inherited a bag of poo and until he can get rid of those I believe we will have a poor season coming up. I will stop short of saying we will get relegated but we will not be doing a bounce back.
All this rot was set last season with letting Hayes go and not replacing him and other departees. The icing on the cake was Woolford and to think our chairman whinged about the loss of revenue when we got relegated despite being root cause of it.”

“Pathetic - Wharton's grip on the purse strings and the failure to sell O'Connor (despite he not wanting to leave a la Woolford) has jeopardised our season already. What has happened to the £600k Conor Sammon money? Was there ever any Conor Sammon money - I suggest not.
Wake up to what contempt the club are holding you in fans. Don't read too deeply into what the Telegraph prints on behalf of the club.”
