Super surgery plans go on show

PLANS for the NHS North Lincolnshire super surgery have gone on display in Scunthorpe for the first time.

A 3D-model and video walk-through were among the attractions at a public meeting on the plans for the West Street Health and Social Care Centre.

Representatives from NHS North Lincolnshire and architects Taylor Young were on hand to answer questions about the centre, which is currently the subject of a funding request to the Strategic Health Authority.

A planning application for the project was filed to North Lincolnshire Council on Monday.

If both applications go through, building could be open by late summer 2010.

Community development worker Neseem Mehmood, 37, of Cliff Gardens, could potentially work in the centre when it opens.

She said: "For the community, it's good. I think have everything under one roof and bringing everything together is a good thing.

"I think it's new for us because we have been used to GP surgeries being singled out and individual.

"Time will - the proof will be in the pudding."

David Shield project-led a team of six designers at Taylor Young's Leeds office in creating the project.

He said: "There are massive challenges [in designing a health centre]. The biggest challenge is delivering a simple building.
