CONSTRUCTION: An East Yorkshire company has won a high-profile contract to help safeguard a Scottish town from flooding.

Construction industry project management specialists Sypro will be helping to hold back the tide following its latest contract win.

Fife Council has selected the company's web-based system for the £10m rebuild of the sea wall at Kirkcaldy on the east coast of Scotland between Edinburgh and Dundee.

The aim of the project is to prevent flooding from the sea as well as improve access to the beach and upgrade the promenade.

On the back of the deal, Sypro has already won a second contract with Fife Council.

Simon Hunt, managing director of Sypro, is optimistic the contract will lead to further work with other local authorities in Scotland.

He said: "Predominantly, the work we have done in Scotland has been around health.

"This is our first opportunity to engage with a large unitary authority and, hopefully, we will be able to use this to expand into the other 31 councils across Scotland."
