Talented 'young ones' swing into action for latest show
The sounds, songs and swing of the 60s are coming to Scunthorpe's Plowright Theatre.
Talented members of Wilton Productions proudly present their latest musical offering – The Young Ones – running from Tuesday, February 7 until Saturday, February 11.
For those who remember the movie the first time around, this is a show to relive your youth – for those too young, this is what your parents held hands to in the back row of the Odeon.
Set in 1961, The Young Ones is the story of a group of teenagers fighting to save their local youth club from imminent demolition at the hands of property tycoon, Hamilton Black. They decide to raise money and awareness of their plight by putting on a variety show, promising that a mystery singer will top the bill.
But who is this heart-throb hipster who will whip the local teenagers into a frenzy and help raise enough cash to save the day? What is his connection to the property tycoon? Who is the famous French singer drafted in to help? All will be revealed with much song and dance.
Acting and musical director, Damian Bell, from Doncaster, said: "This is a fantastic show, full of energy and great 60 hits. Originally written as a screen vehicle for Cliff Richard, there are lots of well-known number one hits that will have the audience up on their feet. The group have once again worked so hard to put this famous film onto the stage complete with two hours of fabulous song and dance routines. We are really looking forward to giving theatre goers a show to remember and a great night out."
Familiar face on the local theatre circuit, Stewart Robertson, is starring as the lead role of Youth Club leader, Nicky.
He said: "It's been a lot of fun playing Nicky, and quite a challenge learning to sing so many songs and do my best Cliff Richard impression. I hope everyone will enjoy our interpretation of a very popular film and musical."
The Young Ones is packed with top ten hits including Livin' Doll, We Say Yeah, Do You Wanna Dance and, of course, The Young Ones.
Starring a young talented cast, Wilton Productions guarantees a fantastic evening of live entertainment and a show full of songs and dances suitable for every age possible.
