Scunthorpe's ladies' B team faced a difficult fixture in the National Ladies Over-60s (Mason Trophy) Two Rink competition against an extremely tough Lincoln A team.

The home rink for Scunthorpe, consisting of Ruby Heatley, Mary Radford, Barbara Graves and Mary Walls, put up an exceptional performance to claim a single-shot success.

As play progressed in this well-balanced game, both quartets produced some magnificent bowls which kept spectators interested.

At the halfway stage, Lincoln held a slight two-shot advantage, leading 8-6, but the Scunthorpe ladies continued to fight on and deservedly edged their way back onto level terms before then taking a 14-12 lead.

The home team eventually edged home by 16 shots to 15.

The Scunthorpe rink that travelled to Lincoln, made up of Jackie Pettitt, June Tomlinson, Vicki Watts and Margaret Dargue, found their opponents playing on their own green a real tough call.

Lincoln powered their way in to an early 15-0 lead and showed no let up as they continued to produce some superb bowls.

By the halfway point of the match, the home rink had nearly disappeared from sight having extended their advantage to 30 clear shots.

The Scunthorpe ladies tried extremely hard to stem the flow of shots being scored by their opponents but could not make any real impression on the scoreboard, losing by 46 to five shots.

That gave Lincoln an overall victory of 61 to 21 shots and secured them a place in the next round of this prestigious competition.

Scunthorpe A will hope to do better when they face Lincoln B to try to progress further.
